Serving Vashon Island since the 1970’s, the team at Jeffrey Cole, CPA, know the people, life style, and local specifics like nobody else. In 2015, west sound native Jeffrey Cole purchased the firm from “Williams and Callan” to ensure the firm maintained its local team and involvement in the community.

Let’s meet the team:

Jeffrey Cole, CPA – Owner & President

Jeffrey Cole

Jeff grew up in the Puget Sound after moving to Tacoma from Fairbanks, Alaska, due to a change of duty station for his father.  After attending schools in Tacoma, Graham, and Belfair, his family put down roots in Kitsap County.  After graduating from South Kitsap High School (1986), Jeff attended a college in Tacoma on an athletic scholarship then finished his degree and college baseball career at a school in Los Angeles, California.

In the early 1990’s, Jeff served on the accounting and auditing staff of Capin, Crouse, LLC (Los Angeles), a national public accounting firm specializing in providing public accounting and tax services to not for profit organizations and small businesses nationwide.  In the mid 90’s, moved to North Carolina as Chief Financial Officer and a member of the Board of Directors of a global not-for-profit organization with 40 employees in over twelve nations worldwide. He was responsible for oversight over all financial, tax, and personnel matters of U.S. and international operations, including serving on the Board of Directors of foreign NGO’s in Israel and Romania.

Now back in the Pacific Northwest, he is the owner of Jeffrey D. Cole, Certified Public Accountant, a public accounting practice committed to serving the full bookkeeping, tax, assurance, payroll, and planning needs of business and not for profit organizations on Vashon and the greater Puget Sound area, as well as businesses nationwide.  Jeff has frequently been featured as a speaker across the country for the Christian Camp and Conference Association on tax and accounting issues facing not for profit organizations.

Jeff’s volunteer service is extensive, including serving on the Board of Directors of Duyugda (a non-profit organization committed to the continuation and instruction of the Cherokee language among the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indian), Hope for Families (domestic violence shelter and assistance organization) and Amputees in Action (a non-profit organization committed to encouraging an active lifestyle among the amputee community) and bible teacher at Christian Love drug rehabilitation and recovery center.

As an ordained minister, he actively serves in the Washington State Army National Guard as a Battalion Chaplain (CPT) currently assigned to the 1-168th General Support Aviation Battalion, 66th TAC (Joint Base Lewis McCord).

Jeff has been married to Gena for 25 years with three children, Preston (21), Madison (19), Alison (17). Hobbies include coaching local youth sports, competing in half ironman triathlons, and trying to win a ping pong match against his wife.

Michael Bates, CPA – Manager

Mike manages the tax practice, having spent six years as a Revenue Agent with the Internal Revenue Service responsible for small business / self-employed tax return examinations and audits.  Prior to that, Mike served a number of years on the tax staff of a regional accounting firm servicing the business and individual tax needs of the firm.  He is uniquely qualified to advise business clients and help navigate the Tax Code for each situation they face, particularly federal tax return examinations which emphasize tax law research; audits of books, records, and systems used to prepare tax returns such as the general ledger, financial statements, internal controls, and other external reporting requirements; tax return preparation.

Interests include boating and water sports in the summertime and snowboarding in the winter months. Mike and his family, friends, and I support the MS Society with our team “Strides for Steve” who walk every year at the South Sound MS Walk.  The team was started in 1996.

Mike is happy to have family who consumes life, including his wife and two beautiful children, ages 1 and 9.

Raven HJ Plye-McCrackynRaven HJ Plye-McCrackyn – Staff

Prior Experience:  Raven Pyle-McCrackyn has been preparing taxes since 1999 and has an acute working and application of the tax code to individuals.  Before that she worked six years in the investment industry as a registered representative (a.k.a. stock broker) and at an investment management firm.  Raven specializes in individual tax preparation with additional knowledge of estate and trust preparation.  She has completed her Certified Financial Planning coursework.

Interests include reading, catching up on Facebook, camping, and spending time with friends and family.  Raven has served on the Board of Directors for Seeds for Success, a non-profit specializing in helping adults with disabilities gain employment, and the Vashon Island Unitarian Fellowship.  She is active in various Autism support and outreach communities.

Raven Pyle-McCrackyn is married to Mark Frey-McCrackyn.  They have one son, James McCrackyn.  They, along with James’ Autism Service Dog, Comet, live in a tiny house on North Vashon that is filled with James’ various musical instruments: keyboard, banjo, ukulele, mandolin and three guitars.

Linda Van StoneLinda Van Stone – Manager

Linda is a long time Vashon resident who previously worked as Chief Financial Officer for a publicly held multi-state corporation.  She has been recognized with First Place Awards in Business Management Excellence from Volvo of North America and the Nissan Motor Corporation.  She is active in the Vashon Women’s Prayer Group and enjoys spending her spare time with her loving family.


Nicki RindNicki Rind – Staff

Nicki has 20 years bookkeeping in fields of real estate, construction and medical tracking technology and currently services a wide range of business clients, large and small.  She also has unique knowledge of franchise platforms and the franchise approval process, small business creation, planning, and launch, and excels at cleanup and reorganization of existing accounting files, identifying outdated systems, and streamlining processes for efficiency.

Her interests include gardening, landscaping, traveling, hiking, and painting. She actively volunteers on projects with Habitat for Humanity.

Education:  Coursework completed at Pierce College in Business Management, Accounting, and Human Resources


Becky JenkinsBecky Jenkins – Staff

Becky has 20 years of experience in accounting including government, private and public industry. Her areas of particular knowledge include cost accounting, inventory, and payroll, reconciliation of accounts, Inter-company accounting with individual and consolidated financial reporting.

Her interests include spending time with my kids and granddaughter, Camping, Hiking, Attending music concerts and festivals, traveling (especially road trips).  Over the years Becky has actively supported the local community as a volunteer at Chautauqua Elementary in the Junior Great Books program, active participation in the Water Conservation Coalition, promoting education on water conservation to the youth on the island.  As a Girl Scout leader on Vashon, for 5 years the troop cared for the flower beds at the library and also participated in Operation Christmas Child every winter, preparing shoeboxes of goodies and supplies for the homeless teens on island.

Education:  Vashon High School (1990); three years of coursework at the University of Washington and City University


Peggy WoodPeggy Wood – Staff

Peggy brings a diverse and caring service background to the firm, having served as operations manager for a regional bank, manager of a local Island law firm, and caregiver to her husband, of 36 years, Mike, during his four year terminal illness.

Besides her management and bookkeeping experience, Peggy has particular expertise in the Angry Birds game, being a loving mother to her to boys, and being the best grandma to her granddaughter, Beatrice.  She has been a long time Vashon resident and has been active as a Master Gardener and statistician with the Vashon Lacrosse Club.

Education:  Certification – Ethics for Paralegals; various business and management coursework at Mt. Hood College and South Seattle College Community College.


Virginia Sager – Office Manager

Virginia is the linchpin in the Jeffrey Cole, CPA office. Her focus on office organization, customer service and “bringing fun into the workplace” help keep the team focused on our clients while enjoying the day.

You may recognize Virginia from her previous time as an assistant manager at Chase or when she’s out in Vashon Island community volunteering with VAA, the Eagles or the Chamber of Commerce. And when enjoying some downtime, she’s keeping busy with glass bead making, jewelry making and silk painting.
